PLC 5: Organizational Structure Design - Pt 2

In the case of an independent film production company, like Lions Gate Premiere the ideal organizational structure would be a flat structure with cross-functional teams. This structure is well-suited for the dynamic and fast-paced nature of the film industry, where projects can vary greatly in terms of size, scope, and complexity. A flat structure would allow for quick decision-making, efficient communication, and greater flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances.

The cross-functional teams within the flat structure would consist of individuals from different departments working together on a project-by-project basis. This structure would foster collaboration, innovation, and knowledge sharing across departments, leading to a more cohesive and efficient organization.

In terms of the structural elements, the organization should prioritize the following:

  1. Clear roles and responsibilities: Each team member should have a clear understanding of their role and responsibilities within the team to ensure that everyone is working towards a shared goal with the ability to adapt to fast paced changes.
  2. Effective communication channels: The organization should establish effective communication channels to ensure that team members can communicate and collaborate efficiently.
  3. Agile project management: The organization should adopt an agile project management approach that allows for quick iterations, continuous feedback, and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
  4. Training and development: The organization should invest in training and development programs for its employees to ensure that they have the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in their roles and contribute to the success of the organization.

A structure with cross-functional teams and clear roles and responsibilities, effective communication channels, agile project management, and training and development programs would best address the internal and external environment of an independent film production company. It would allow the organization to be more nimble and responsive to changing circumstances, foster innovation and collaboration, and position the organization for long-term success in the highly competitive and dynamic film industry.

After looking at the structure of other production companies this is what I believe would work best for this industry
